A couple of years ago Sony decided to try and regain some of its success with its PlayStation by incorporating it in a smartphone. While it wasn’t a resounding success, it wasn’t a failure either.
There are now suggestions that other companies have decided to create something similar. Until now though, no other manufacturer has actively made the move, despite the fact that Sony itself offered the technology, and still is. A spokesperson for Sony said last year: “It is not the case where we want to keep it in the Sony family. We are in discussions with non-Sony makers. This is not just for Sony devices.”
HTC is reported to be thinking about making use of this generous offer by Sony to create its own version of the PlayStation smartphone.
Many analysts think this is probably a wise move. HTC has in recent months been in constant battle with Apple, leading to the US actually banning the importation and selling of HTC devices. Making use of the patented Sony technology that is on offer will boost its recovery chances.
